Fire-cooked food sizzling on open flames

We Decided Somebody Was Us.

A family, a food truck, and a bet on themselves.

Ruck & Coal Kitchen started because we got fed up waiting for opportunities to appear and decided to create our own. Like a lot of families, we've watched capable young people struggle to get a foot in the door. My lads are both autistic. They're bright, hardworking and more than capable, but the world doesn't always make it easy. After enough conversations about what somebody should do, we decided that somebody was us. So we bought a food truck.

Probably the sensible thing would have been to sit quietly and complain about it over a cup of tea. Instead, we emptied our savings, took a deep breath and threw ourselves into building something from scratch.

Ruck & Coal Kitchen is a family business built around good food, local suppliers and the belief that everybody deserves a chance to prove what they can do. We cook over fire because food tastes better that way. We source locally where we can because supporting local businesses matters. And we keep things simple. No gimmicks. No tiny portions balanced on bits of slate. Just proper food cooked with care and served with pride.

The dream is bigger than a food truck. We want to create opportunities, support our community and prove that sometimes the best way to solve a problem is to roll your sleeves up and build the answer yourself.

If you're wondering whether betting the house on a bright orange food truck was a sensible idea, we're still not entirely sure ourselves. But we're giving it everything we've got.

Good food. Good people. Good fire. Good Food Doing Good.

Good Food.

Good People.

Good Fire.
