Fire-cooked food sizzling over open flame at Ruck & Coal Kitchen

Good food. Doing good.

Fire-cooked food, locally sourced, served with pride. Find us in the valleys every Friday and Saturday.

Ruck & Coal Kitchen started because we got fed up waiting for opportunities to appear and decided to create our own. We're a family business, a dad and his two boys, built around proper food, local suppliers, and the belief that everyone deserves a chance to prove what they can do.

We cook over fire because food tastes better that way. We source locally because supporting local businesses matters. And we always have something on the menu for everyone, including a plant-based option.

Anything left at the end of the night goes to the food bank.

“No gimmicks. No tiny portions on bits of slate. Just good food, cooked with care.”

Best thing to happen to the valleys in years. Came for the brisket, stayed for the fire. My kids are obsessed. The plant-based option even converted my wife. She said that would never happen.

Proper food, proper people. You can tell they care about every single plate. Turned up after rugby on Saturday and it was exactly what we needed. We'll be back every week.

Incredible that something this good has set up so close to home. The smoke you can smell from down the road is the best advert they could ask for. And the fact that leftovers go to the food bank? Brilliant.

Came on a whim after seeing them on Facebook. Left absolutely stuffed and planning my next visit before I'd even got back to the car. The brisket is something else.

We brought the whole family down on Saturday evening. Four generations, everyone happy, nobody complaining. That's a miracle in itself. The food had a lot to do with it.

So happy to have something this good on our doorstep. Everything is cooked fresh, the portions are generous, and you can tell they're putting everything into it. Real community food.
